NHIMA COMMEMORATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY WITH CALL FOR RIGHTS, JUSTICE AND ACTION

The National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) joined the rest of the world in commemorating International Women’s Day under the theme “Rights. Justice. Action for All Women and Girls.” The Authority marked the occasion with a special Women’s Day luncheon that brought together female staff to celebrate achievements, reflect on progress, and reaffirm the importance of empowering women within the workplace.

Speaking during the event, the Organizing Committee Chairperson and Director for Health Insurance Services, Ms. Perpetual Kalobwe, encouraged women at NHIMA to remain ambitious and strive for leadership positions within the institution. She urged women to not only aspire for higher roles but also to perform diligently and with excellence in their current responsibilities.

Ms. Kalobwe emphasized that strong performance and professionalism among women in leadership positions helps open doors for other aspiring women and girls who look up to them as role models.

“Let us continue aiming higher in our careers while delivering results in the roles we hold today. When we excel, we pave the way for more women and girls who aspire to follow in our footsteps,” she said.
Also speaking at the event on behalf of the NHIMA Project Lead, Manager Membership Mr. Charles Mwansa highlighted the importance of healthcare access in empowering women and strengthening families.

“At NHIMA, we believe that access to quality healthcare is a foundation for empowerment. When women and families are protected through health coverage, they are better able to pursue opportunities, grow businesses, care for their families, and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he said.
Mr. Mwansa further commended the women at NHIMA for their dedication and the vital role they play in the Authority’s success.

“To the women employees here today who form much of the workforce: your leadership, resilience, and commitment to duty are truly appreciated. Your contributions continue to strengthen our institutions, our communities, and our country,” he added.
Director of Human Resource and Administration Mr. Mabvuto Daka, who stood in for the Director General, highlighted the Authority’s commitment to creating a safe and supportive working environment for all employees, particularly women.

He noted that NHIMA has taken deliberate steps to ensure that the workplace remains respectful and inclusive through the implementation of the NHIMA Harassment Policy. The policy is aimed at protecting staff from harassment and promoting a professional environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
He encouraged women to speak out and report any inappropriate advances or behavior in the workplace.

“It is important that all staff, especially women, feel safe and respected in their place of work. I urge anyone who experiences inappropriate conduct to report it so that appropriate action can be taken. Together, we can build a healthy and supportive working environment,” he said.
The Women’s Day commemoration served as an opportunity for staff to reflect on the progress made toward gender equality while reaffirming NHIMA’s commitment to advancing the rights, justice, and empowerment of women and girls both within the institution and beyond.
